This number was not supposed to even be listed anywhere, so Bucky could probably be excused for his immediate wariness when the phone rang. But when he heard it was her, well, if there was anyone who would get their hands on this number...
"Hey, it's me. I'm running late, but I'll get you something special to make up for it. Happy birthday, sweetheart. You're the best thing that ever happened to me."
"Hey, it's me. Wanda. Uh, so, I got a really late Christmas card today and it reminded me that I haven't seen you since...way, way before that." Sure, that was what had reminded her. Not being worried at all and looking for an excuse to call.
"I know you're an adult and can do whatever you want, but could you let me know you're okay?" she asked. "You don't have to tell me where you are."
It'd be nice to know, but she knew better than to expect it. "Anyway...that's all I wanted to say. Call me back, send me a letter, carrier pigeon, whatever. Just...take care of yourself, Bucky. Please."
Wanda sent one of those Hail Mary texts to Bucky, hoping that it somehow got to him through the magic of Fandom or the multiverse or whatver.
(Ugh, she needed to not think of the multiverse ever again.)
I know it's been a while. But it's been a rough couple months that just got worse, and I need to know you're doing okay. I'm not on the island anymore so I'm going to need more of a response than a movie this time. Please.
There were only really two (well, three) people that texted Bucky. But he still felt some sort of residual stress from his years on the run, getting a text - made him relax a little when he saw it was actually from one of them.
Til tomorrow
Wakanda really liked grabbing him for weekends, apparently.
Jesse let out a soft, relieved noise. you wanna come over for thanksgiving tonight? your choice between delivery or something from the microwave. you know the traditional way
Bucky looked at the message, and -- you know what, he was just going to skip ahead to answering the second, more implied question rather than the first one.

"I'm at a party and I might need you to rescue me."

Anyway.
"Rescue you how?"

"And where's the party?"

He considered a 'hang in there', for reasons that he really couldn't atriculate, but, yeah.
This would have to do.

"Thank you."

And then, it wasn't all that much later that Bucky was standing in Summer's doorway.

Happy birthday, pal, for however many years it is. Sincerely, Steve.
Phone Day!
Faye had absolutely no idea who the text was from, but she was still asking the important questions.

Just... sending a text in between some paperwork, no biggie.
